The conceptions are grounded by linking them to three narratives—respectively, the history of the modern liberal arts college; the history of Petrarch and the studia humanitatis of the early Renaissance The field of medical humanities examines experiences of illness and wellbeing, and the conditions for human existence in the light of, in encounters with, and as co-emerging with biomedicine, healthcare, and society, as some examples. It takes several perspectives within the humanities and the social sciences. ONU’s new medical humanities minor gives allied-health students a leg up on the competition. The Medical Humanities Path of Excellence actively engages students in the connections between medicine and the humanities through exploration, scholarship, interpretation, creative pursuits and critical reflection to enrich understanding of the human experience as it relates to health and illness, and to enhance clinical, educational and research strategies. Medical Humanities Minor In response to overwhelming faculty and student demand from across campus, the School of Humanities launched its Medical Humanities minor in 2016.

Much of the blog content has shifted to look at the ways medical humanities and social justice address the crisis, and recent submissions to the journal also reflect the shifting issues around COVID 19 spread and treatment as well as consequent societal upheaval and challenges.

The Medical Humanities minor requires an application and approval by the committee to enroll. Applications are read in March and October each year; the minor is not open to students beyond October of their junior year.
